Meet Your Saddle Fitter : Betsy Coburn-Porter
Betsy, owner of Tack Attic, brings over 20 years of hands-on experience across multiple disciplines—including dressage, eventing, western, and endurance. Her deep understanding of both equine biomechanics and rider balance allows her to approach saddle fitting with insight, empathy, and practical know-how.
She is a specialist in fitting Bates, Arena, Wintec, and Santa Cruz Saddles, and is highly experienced with the HART (Horse and Rider Technology) system. This gives her a unique edge in helping riders optimize fit with saddles that are adjustable, lightweight, and designed for long-term comfort.
Why Choose Our Fitting Services?
- ✅ Expertise in HART Saddles: Betsy is extensively trained in the HART panel system used in Bates, Arena, and Wintec saddles. These saddles feature adjustable gullets and shimmable panels that allow for precision fitting without the inconsistencies of wool.
- ✅ Mobile and In-Store Fitting Available: Based in White River Junction, VT, Tack Attic offers on-site fittings within our service area, as well as in-store consultations by appointment.
- ✅ Real-World Knowledge: With two decades of riding experience across disciplines, Betsy brings both a rider’s perspective and a technician’s eye to every fitting.
- ✅ Santa Cruz Saddles: As one of the few specialists in fitting Santa Cruz Saddles, Betsy can help you understand their structure, fit profile, and ideal rider-horse combinations.

Fitting Appointment Availability
📅 Betsy is available for travel fitting appointments on Mondays and Tuesdays throughout Vermont, New Hampshire, and surrounding areas. These barn calls offer the convenience of an on-site evaluation without the need to transport your horse.
What to Expect During a Fitting
- Rider & Horse Profile: We’ll begin by discussing your discipline, goals, and any issues you’re currently experiencing. Betsy will take a tracing of your horse to establish a baseline. She will likely also expect to see the horse move at liberty or on the lunge line prior to wearing a saddle.
- Static & Dynamic Fit Check: We evaluate your saddle (or demo saddles) both at rest and in motion.
- Adjustments or Recommendations: Depending on your saddle brand and model, Betsy may adjust gullets, add or remove shims, or recommend changes for comfort or balance.
- Demo Options: Interested in trying something new? We carry a variety of demo saddles from Bates, Arena, Wintec, and Santa Cruz—as well as consignment options from a wide range of brands. Betsy can offer up to 3 saddles at any given time for a 7 day trial period following a fitting or for riders coming in the physical store in White River.
